We were lucky to have Nick Carr, Liberty Drums endorsee, visit our studio a couple of weeks ago. Let’s just say he certainly woke us up early on a Saturday morning playing his fantastic Liberty Drum kit! We asked him a couple of questions to learn a bit more about the man behind the drums.

How long have you been drumming for?

I’ve been drumming for 13 years now, I started when I was 16.

What inspired you to start drumming/who influenced you?

I can’t really explain it properly to be honest, when I was a kid I was always watching drummers from an early age so I suppose it was natural to me when I started. A few influences are Taylor Hawkins, Dave Weckl, Buddy Rich, Aaron Spears, Anika Nilles & Mike Johnson (that’s the short list!).

What’s the name of your band and how long have you been together?

My band is called Lost in the Crowd, we’ve been together 5 years this coming June. The band formed after a previous band split up and myself and my lead singer (Matt Harmon) started Lost in the Crowd. Over the course of a year we added more band members (one of which was a cello player, unfortunately she is no longer in the band) and developed the sound to what it is today.

What is your favourite venue to play at?

Tough one to call, we’ve had some amazing shows in York and London. I suppose my favourite would be The Dublin Castle in Camden, great venue with around 150 capacity and serves real ale!

How far would you like to take your drumming career and what are your goals in the future?

I want to take it to a professional level and hopefully start to get some session work alongside teaching drums.

Are there any other instruments that you can play?

I used to play the violin for 10 years age 6-16, however I have not played for a significant amount of time so not sure If I still could play. I can play the basic chords and bar chords on guitar, but would love to be able to play the piano fluently.

What do you do when you’re not drumming?

Either working, sleeping or driving.. not much room for much else!

What genre of music do you play?

The band plays alternative rock, however in my practice time I will play anything from funk to jazz etc.

What would your dream venue be?

Wembley Stadium.
